Goal thermometer

Help me meet my fundraising goal for a good friend, Dr. Raul Ruiz.

Raul is an emergency room doctor in Southern California's Coachella Valley, whom we met through a mutual friend. The son of farmworker parents, he became the first Latino to earn three graduate degrees from Harvard, and has been recognized for his many humanitarian achievements, including receiving the Commander's Public Service Award from the Army's 82nd Airborne for his work in Haiti during the 2010 earthquake. His inspiring story is best summed up in the two-minute CNN segment done by Soledad O'Brien at right.

Raul is running an incredibly competitive campaign, which is on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's "Red to Blue" list of the top priority campaigns nation-wide to take back the House of Representatives.

He is running against Mary Bono Mack in a new district that is split almost evenly between Democrats and Republicans, and is 47% Latino. In the last fundraising quarter, his campaign raised $271,000, and was one of the races nationwide where the Democratic challenger out-raised the Republican incumbent.

Raul is a truly progressive candidate running against a Republican who has voted consistently with her increasingly extreme party, supporting proposals like Paul Ryan's budget plan. His race is an important piece of the Democrats national plan to take back the House of representatives.
