The district attorney is one of the most powerful elected officials in the U.S.

These prosecutors, called commonwealth attorneys or state’s attorney in some states, have enormous discretion to decide what alleged crimes to charge, and who to charge them with. They also have the power to decide how aggressive prosecutions are, whether cash bail is required or assets are seized. In many communities, who is elected prosecutor determines whether the impacts of structural racism and income inequality is amplified or diminished within our criminal justice system.

The Real Justice PAC works to elect reform-minded prosecutors at the county and city level who are committed to using the powers of their office to promote public safety, achieve justice, fight structural racism and defend our communities from abuse by state power. Astonishingly, in most circumstances, district attorneys run for election and reelection without a challenger.
