Kalan Haywood II was 19 years old when he made history as the youngest African American ever elected to state office in Wisconsin. He didn't wait for someone else to fight for Milwaukee. He showed up himself. Now in his fourth term as State Representative for the Sensational 16th Assembly District, the heart of Milwaukee's central city and downtown, Kalan serves as Assembly Assistant Minority Leader, giving Milwaukee a seat at the table in Democratic caucus leadership.
Kalan has spent his career on the front lines for the people who need it most. He's fought for affordable housing and first-time homebuyers, pushed to reform the juvenile justice system and end policies that treat young people as criminals, and made protecting voting rights, from youth registration to restoring rights for returning citizens, central to his work from day one. Before the Assembly, he served as President of the City of Milwaukee Youth Council and represented the 6th Aldermanic District, building a record of community investment that he carries with him to Madison every session.
Kalan believes the time to make change is now, and that Wisconsin's future depends on leaders who show up, do the work, and never stop fighting for their people. Chip in today to keep Kalan in the fight for Milwaukee's future.
