Jahajee Sisters Empowering Indo-Caribbean Women

Donate to Jahajee Sisters Empowering Indo-Caribbean Women

This year was a big one. It began with devastation as we mourned the murder of Stacy Singh. What happened to Stacy was a stark reminder of why Jahajee Sisters exists, and of all the work we have yet to do to achieve gender justice in our community. Emboldened, we doubled down more than ever—and we have the gains to prove it. Over the last year, we:

  • Hired 2 Co-Directors, the first-ever staff dedicated to addressing gender injustice in our community;
  • Developed 20 new Indo-Caribbean leaders for gender justice through our Leadership & Empowerment Institute;
  • Debuted “Jahajees Rising,” a multi-disciplinary theatre presentation and community organizing tool reimagining the life of Stacy Singh;
  • Hosted the 2018 Indo-Caribbean Women’s Empowerment Summit, a two-day event convening over 200 people;
  • Established the first Emergency Fund for Indo-Caribbean survivors of violence;
  • Held a Vigil & Speakout for Stacy Singh;
  • Deepened relationships with our community partners;
  • Secured new support from leading women’s funders, government officials, and our community; and,
  • Received awards and recognition from the New York City Council, the New York City Comptroller, the World Heritage Cultural Center, and the Hindu Society of Berbice.

We could not have done all of this without you. Yet, there is so much more to do! Will you give today to ensure that we can sustain and grow our work for Indo-Caribbean women? Your contributions make all the difference.
