In 2020, Women Engaged contributed to the largest increase in black voter registration since 2016. Our impact report emphasizes our capacity to bring out voters. Displaying in 2020, WE talked to over 25,000 voters over the phone, texted more than 400,000 Georgia voters, reached over 6,000 voters a month (with online outreach), among other forms of communication. Additionally, of those contacted in various methods, 90% were people of color. Likewise in 2021, we contributed to record voter turnout during the historic 2021 Georgia Senate Run-Off election counteracting voter fatigue, voter apathy, and demanding #ReparationsNow.
Women Engaged (WE) is a human rights (501c3) organization that takes a groundbreaking, hands-on learning approach to championing gender justice, human rights, youth empowerment, and civic engagement efforts in Georgia. WE understands that Black women, femmes, and girls are pivotal leaders in creating critical change and building power in our communities.
In 2014, Women Engaged launched its signature voter engagement program, WE Vote. WE Rise! (WVWR). Through the WVWR program, Women Engaged conducts year-round voter engagement and political education, to build relationships with community members and leverage power throughout the civic process. Our signature program conducts issue-based canvasses, voter registration, and nonpartisan get-out the vote efforts, to reach our community where they are and give them vital information to tap into their civic power. We also provide leadership development opportunities, by using an integrated voter engagement model, to bring in community members and develop them into astute voters, activists, advocates, and organizers on the issues that matter most to them.
Additionally, the Supreme Court Case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned Roe v. Wade has made us invoke rapid response efforts to combat this injustice. Women Engaged has developed several critical strategies that educate voters in the community such as #BLKNRoe which highlights life for Black people before, during, and after Roe and the effects of states creating life altering bans when it comes to bodily autonomy.
In short, while thinking of an organization to give to, in the past 8 years, Women Engaged has broken barriers creating spaces where Black women, femmes, and girls are cared, appreciated, and valued.
Women Engaged exists because if Black women thrive, everyone around them flourishes.
