Fall Gathering BBQ and Auction

Goal thermometer

Summer Heat is slowly yielding to cooler morning breezes; pumpkins are ripening, and we’ve made it through Hurricane Season without a major storm.  That’s three good reasons to celebrate a Change of Seasons with Texas friends, both new and old, on Sunday, September 18th from 4:00 - 8:00pm at the Willis Community Center. Join us in saluting the Montgomery County Food Bank as our featured charity, with $2 from each ticket going to boost the Food Bank’s ‘Harvest’.

Another Change is also afoot:  the November Election is only 75 days away!  Recent polls put Hillary Clinton six points behind Donald Trump in Texas.  No longer are we ‘Solid Republican’ on maps of Red and Blue states.  Instead, Texas is colored Pink indicating “leans GOP”.  If current trends hold up, Texas Democrats may enjoy our best outcome since 1996, when Bill Clinton came within 4 points of besting Bob Dole.

A shift in candidate preference for President also helps Democrats running for state and local offices.  By breaking ‘Straight Ticket’ voting pattern among Independent and GOP voters, Hillary creates opportunity for down-ballot Democratic candidates.  Voters in our area are likely to turn out in high percentages, as before.  But with less enthusiasm for Trump, some will vote for HRC or the Libertarian, or skip that race.  This means they must choose candidates one-by-one for all contests below President.

We have an outstanding candidate running for Constable in Montgomery County Precinct 1:  Thomas Mack of Willis.  ‘T-Mack’ is a 30 year resident of our area.  He began his law enforcement career with the Houston Police Department, transferring to METRO in 1993.  There he rose to the rank of Lieutenant.  His many professional and civic accomplishments include:

●   U.S. Marine Sergeant (2nd Engineering Battalion) 1971-75

●   Graduate, Texas A&M Criminal Justice Academy 1989

●   10 Year Parishioner, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Conroe

●   Father of 3 children, all graduates of Willis High School

●   Married to Lucinda since 1981

On September 18, T-Mack will share his vision for reforming the Constable’s Office by training MOCO deputies for new tasks in drug investigation, traffic and boating safety, and emergency response [floods, fires and heavy weather].

With your help, Montgomery County Democrats can pursue progressive ideas of Equal Pay for Equal Work, a Fair Minimum Wage, and putting a Stop to Racial Profiling.   Reforming immigration laws to protect ‘Dreamers’ and those who have worked and paid taxes in the USA is long overdue.

It takes the combined efforts of many volunteers to keep our Conroe office open during Elections.   Your attendance and donation at this event helps provide income for voter registration and operating expenses.

Auction items include specially baked desserts, jewelry made by Democrats, Baseball and Theatre Tickets, and Campaign Memorabilia from 2012.  All proceeds go to Montgomery County Democratic Party.

If you want to help but are unable to attend, may we suggest you purchase tickets and donate your spot to someone else. Let us know and we will find someone to attend in your place - like a college student or someone who might otherwise be unable to come.
