Dubuque Branch NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet

Thank you for your interest in the Dubuque Branch NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet. This year’s event will be held on Friday 23 October at Diamond Jo Casino, 301 Bell Street. The Conference Center will open at 5:00 p.m, with the welcome and invocation at 5:45, followed by the buffet and the program will begin around 6:30.


The keynote speaker at the Freedom Fund Banquet will be Henry Hamilton III, who recently retired as a federal Administrative Law Judge. Hamilton has also served as an Administrative Judge and Senior Trial Attorney with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; Magistrate Judge for the State of Iowa; City Prosecutor for the City of Des Moines, Iowa; and as a private practitioner with the Parrish Law Firm, Des Moines, Iowa.


The day of the banquet, we will announce who will receive The Ruby Sutton Award. The Presentation Lantern Center was chosen to receive the Thomas Determan S.C.O.P.E. (Standout Community Organization Pursuing Equity) Award. Instead of giving the D.O.M.E. Student Athlete of the Year Award at this event, we are asking people to submit the name of a 12th grade student from any Dubuque County high school for consideration for a scholarship from the NAACP Endowed Scholarship (see bit.ly/naacp-endowed-scholarship) by 31 December 2026 to NAACPMLKTribute@gmail.com. Monies raised from the Freedom Fund banquet provide the operating funding for Dubuque Branch NAACP, as well as supporting the annual MLK Student Tribute and our Scholarship Program.
