Justin Wilk for School Board

Justin grew up in the suburbs of Detriot, Michigan. He moved to Prince William County, Virginia twelve years ago to begin a teaching career at Woodbridge Middle School. While teaching for the next six years, Justin earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia, piloted the same gender boy’s program at Woodbridge Middle, was the assistant football coach and head boy’s track coach at Woodbridge Middle, and saw his students consistently score in top the percentile on SOL tests. Justin spent his last three years in the county teaching eight grade civics at Gainesville Middle School.

The decision to leave teaching was difficult, however, Justin wanted to pursue an alternative way to help the youth of today reach their greatest potential. He began working in the educational technology field, and today he continues to work with school districts across the country to prepare students for post-secondary opportunities.

In 2015, Justin was elected to the Prince William County School Board representing the Potomac district. While on the board, Justin has focused on teacher compensation, reducing class sizes, and supporting the special education program. In the last three years, he helped remove the previous thirty minute contract extension, provided teachers with their first back-to-back step increase since the recession, and expanded pre-K to over one hundred additional seats in the Potomac district. Justin worked with the board to accelerate the building of new schools as well as the renovations of current schools, to dramatically decrease the number of trailers used in the Potomac district.

Justin lives in the Potomac district with his wife and two boys. His wife is currently a teacher at Forest Park High school, and his oldest son attends Ashland Elementary School. Justin serves on the regional Special Education Advisory Board, is a member of the Prince William Special Needs PTA, is a member of Ashland’s Military Parents Advisory Board, and serves on the Safe Schools Advisory Council. In his free time, he enjoys making cookies with his youngest son, playing tag with his oldest, and going on family walks.
