My daughter and I have now received citations simply for standing quietly in our Capitol's PUBLIC SPACE holding a homemade banner with the words of state's constitution on it. We are criminals for expressing our First Amendment rights, when even the Westboro Baptist Church is allowed to express *their* hate filled language. I asked the officer who gave us our citations what he would do if those from the WBC were there--would he give THEM a ticket, too? He could not answer. But for us, the answer was YES. Please help us stop this injustice.
We are willing to take OUR case to the Supreme Court just as the WBC did--and our language is not filled with hate, it is the language of our Constitution: "The right of the people to assemble, to consult for the common good, and to petition the government, or any department thereof, shall never be abridged."
