Carter for Virginia - A Campaign for The People, Not Corporate Donors

Goal Thermometer

One of the most loosely guarded secrets in Virginia politics is just how flush our current system is with corporate cash. Our state allows unlimited corporate contributions to any candidate, at any time, for any reason, and this has a chilling effect on ideas that actually make a difference in the lives of real people. From obstructing efforts to provide healthcare to tens of thousands of uninsured Virginians, to constantly weakening protections for workers and consumers, this corporate interest works non-stop behind the scenes to make things easier for corporations alone - with very little attention paid to how it actually impacts the bottom line of hard working families.

Here at Carter for Virginia, we aim to change that.

We're working hard to make sure that people who work hard, and who play by the rules are able to get ahead in life. We're fighting to make sure that everyone has access to high quality, affordable healthcare. We're fighting to make sure that everyone can afford to get the education needed to be successful in today's workplace, without incurring crippling debt. And most of all, we're fighting to make sure that Virginia's government responds to real Virginians, not just the corporations with the most money to spend on political campaigns.

And on that front, we're making great strides. The Virginia Public Access Project has released fundraising figures for all House of Delegates races for the first half of this year, and the information on the 50th District was absolutely stunning. We've raised almost 14 times as much money from small, individual contributors than the incumbent, Jackson Miller.

But it's not all good news.

When you include corporate donations, that comparison is reversed. His corporate donors alone have put up 16 times more money than all our donors combined!

So two things are clear. It's going to be an uphill fight all the way - lobbyists don't give up easy - and we need your help to win it! With a small contribution of just $27, you can do your part to help us make Virginia's government finally start listening to Virginia families again.

Let's win this thing,
Lee Carter
Candidate, Virginia's 50th House District
