Goal thermometer

I'm running for Bernalillo County Clerk because it is my passion to help people exercise their right to vote. The office of County Clerk requires a skill set I have developed over my entire life; it’s that experience that makes me your best choice for our County's future.

I was raised in a Union household, so it’s no surprise that my first experiences in negotiating were as a union steward at Mountain Bell, back in 1968. Since then, I've served in positions such as Chairman of the Albuquerque International Airport Advisory Board, Director of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority and President of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Rural Rehabilitation Corporations.

I have proudly helped good Democrats win elections as Vice Chair of the Bernalillo County Democratic Party and as State President of Democratic Women of New Mexico; my community service was recognized by Bernalillo County, by declaring Linda Olmsted-Stover Day in thanks.

As much as these experiences have helped me become a good leader, my 30 years of helping people find ways to change their lives through education at New Mexico Rural Rehabilitation Corporation have been the most satisfying.

As Director there, I managed countless diverse challenges that included budget pressures after the housing collapse in 2008, regulatory conflicts, and even a company-wide IRS audit (resulting from an overzealous Journal reporter.) I'm happy to say, we are back on track!

As interesting as these distractions can be, the test is how we face them: Bernalillo County's Clerk needs to be able to take on all the office’s challenges, head-on. People with a confrontational or abrasive demeanor can make these bad situations much worse (as past Clerks can attest to,) so an amiable leader is a big plus for this job.

My leadership style has always been one of working with others to find common ground; that's probably why I've been elected by my peers so often to chair the boards I served on. I want to bring this same set of leadership skills to this office I'm so passionate about, to become your next Bernalillo County Clerk.

I’m asking for your vote and I promise that your best interests are always paramount. I will not just strengthen, but will expand upon the groundbreaking work of Maggie Toulouse-Oliver, to make sure everyone who is eligible to vote is able to and more voters are drawn to each election. I vow to do my best in the daily operations of the County Clerk’s office and to make sure my management on your behalf is both competent and conflict-free.

Thank you for your kind and continuing support!
