Goal Thermometer

Let’s be clear: the Senate is the problem. The Senate is why we don’t have a public option as part of healthcare reform. The Senate is why we haven’t addressed global warming. The Senate is why a significant percentage of appointments to the Obama administration remain vacant, crippling the administration’s ability to do its job.

And the tool being used by the enemies of progress in the Senate is abuse of Rule 22: the filibuster.

The Republicans are obstructionist. And so-called Democrats like Joe Lieberman, Ben Nelson, Blanche Lincoln, and Mary Landrieu are feckless. They exploit the filibuster to extort special deals for their states while undermining good legislation.

It’s time to fix the problem and remove the tool they’re abusing.

It’s time to end the filibuster.

And we can do that in January 2011, if we get cracking on organizing around it right now.

But we need your help. You see, KagroX (otherwise known as David Waldman) is brilliant at not only understanding but explaining Congressional procedure to all of us. Not only to all of us, but also to members of Congress and their staffs. When we needed help in the healthcare fight explaining to House members how reconciliation could be used to fix the Senate bill, it was David who led the charge. When activist groups like the PCCC needed to know what was procedurally possible, it was David they called.

So we want to give David a fellowship to focus on ending the filibuster – and we need your help. Please join us in contributing.
