Evan Shanley for Warwick

I am excited to announce that I am a candidate for State Representative, District 24, Warwick.

I am running for a very simple reason: This is my home and I care about what happens here.

My family has lived in Warwick for over 60 years. My grandparents, Joe and Elaine Shanley, lived on Flagg Avenue, Superior Street, then Hedgerow Drive, where my father, Paul, and his siblings Michael, Andy, Brian and Kathy were raised. I grew up on Sturbridge Drive, where Paul, my stepmother, Patti, and my sister, Meaghan, still reside. I went to school at Cedar Hill Elementary, Winman Junior High, and Tollgate High School. I went to church at St. Greg’s where I played little league baseball and CYO basketball.  During high school, I worked at the Stop & Shop on the corner of Cowesett Road and Quaker Lane.

My family is a part of this community. Paul was a Warwick police officer for 26 years. Patti is a Warwick school teacher along with my wife, Meredith. My mother, Mary Madden, was the president of the Trudeau Center for nine years.

When I had the chance to move back home after graduating from Providence College, earning my law degree from Catholic University, and then working in Kansas City, I jumped at the opportunity.  In December of 2014, Meredith and I bought our first home here, and this is where we plan to raise our family.

When I moved home, I was struck by how many of my neighborhood friends and classmates had moved away. The good jobs just are not here. That is bad for my friends, bad for their families, and bad for Rhode Island.

We need to change that.

Our current state representative has let us down.  We need new ideas, new energy, and new leadership. After 15 long years, it is time for a change. But I am definitely the underdog, and it is going to be tough.

We need you to be part of a campaign to change Warwick for the better by working together.  We really need your help.  We need your help knocking on doors, making phone calls, sending letters to your neighbors, and raising the funds necessary to run this campaign.

Our campaign will be about a lot of things - too many to mention here. But, the one thing I want to leave you with is this:  this campaign will be about lifting people up, not down, about engagement, not disengagement, and about bringing a change in direction that will benefit everyone in our community.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our website.

Very truly yours,
Evan P. Shanley
