Seth is a native of Massachusetts where he attended Phillips Academy Andover and Harvard University, the latter on scholarship and student loans. He gave the commencement speech at his 2001 Harvard graduation, and after exhorting his fellow graduates to spend some time dedicating themselves to National Service, he joined the Marine Corps. Seth served four tours in Iraq as a Marine Corps officer, two tours as a platoon leader and two as a Special Assistant to General David Petraeus. In 2003, Seth was in the first company of Marines to enter Baghdad. In 2004, he led a platoon during the Battle of Najaf, the fiercest fighting of the war in that time. As a Special Assistant to General Petraeus, Seth worked on a small team of Marines leading counterinsurgency operations south of Baghdad in 2005. He left the Marine Corps in 2008 as a Captain.
Seth then attended a dual graduate degree program at the Harvard Business School and JFK School of Government. During this time, he interned at Goldman Sachs. After graduation, he served as the managing director for a high-speed rail project in Texas and later started a small healthcare business in Massachusetts.
Seth was elected to Congress in 2014 on a platform of bringing new, bipartisan leadership to Congress. In his first term, he has focused on economic growth for Massachusetts families and improving veterans' health care through the VA, where he still receives his care. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Budget Committee and the House Small Business Committee.
