1Hood Power is a 501c4 organization with the mission of building political power, holding politicians accountable, and developing effective political leadership through electoral organizing, issue advocacy, and civic education efforts. 1Hood Power is the advocacy arm of 1Hood Media, a collective of socially conscious artists and activists who utilize art to raise awareness.
When we fight, we are able to reach people who have been forgotten and left out of electoral politics. We can engage in power and educate people about the power they have that they can exercise in each and every election.
In the 2016 presidential election, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was decided by approximately 44,000 votes. 1Hood Power worked diligently to build a progressive voting coalition of Black, Brown, and young voters under the age of 40 mobilized by issues such as criminal justice reform, affordable housing, education, climate change, and the pandemic. We have watched the election of the first Black mayors in Pittsburgh and Washington County, the first Black woman elected to Congress from Pennsylvania, and the increase of Black women in the Superior Court. Our coalition changed the map in Pennsylvania, but our work is not finished.
Once again, we find ourselves only a few months away from another election to preserve this country’s fragile democracy. We are currently educating, engaging, and mobilizing voters in a dozen counties in Pennsylvania. Your support will allow us to turn out the voters we so desperately need to ensure that a history-altering shift away from democracy does not take place on November 5, 2024.
1Hood Power has been instrumental in contacting voters across Pennsylvania with a special focus and emphasis on our Black communities in southwest Pennsylvania. We have knocked on doors, made calls, text-hosted forms, and met people where they are. As cultural creators building electoral power within our most marginalized communities, we understand he must give people policies to vote for. We fight for policies, not political parties; we fight for people, not partisanship, and we fight for the future community, not corporations
