A Conversation with Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Ticket sales are now closed for this event. Thank you!

The Polk County Democratic Party will welcome Speaker Nancy Pelosi back to Iowa for her first visit since retaking the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives last fall.

“A Conversation with Speaker Nancy Pelosi” will be held at Sheslow Auditorium at Drake University in Des Moines on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. The event will feature a candid conversation with the Speaker about her historic experience in public service and American politics.

“We are proud to welcome the highest-ranking Democrat and the most powerful woman in American political history back to Polk County,” said Sean Bagniewski, the Chair of the Polk County Democrats. “Speaker Pelosi joined us last year to talk about her bold plans to take back the House. With Iowa’s three out of four U.S. House seats now held by Democrats, she’ll be here to talk about how we can expand on Democratic victories in the Midwest. She has been the only public servant who has been able to put a check on Donald Trump and we’re thrilled to hear her thoughts about how our Democratic Party will win in 2020.”

Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives for the 116th Congress. Speaker Pelosi made history as the first woman to be elected as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives in 2007 and then again in 2019. She secured passage for the $787 billion Recovery Act in 2009 and the landmark Affordable Care Act in 2010. She made headlines in February 2018 for her eight hour speech in support of DREAMer immigrants, smashing a 109-year old House record for the longest delivery of a speech. Her record stretches back decades, from stopping George W. Bush’s attempted privatization of Social Security to opposing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in the nineties. A proud grandmother of nine, she has been called the “strongest and most effective speaker of modern times.”

Tickets are available for $40. Please note that no paper tickets are provided. Ticket sales will close at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24.
