Our appeal is focused in completing Soraya's Shelter.
We have completed the acquisition of the land and building for our upcoming Shelter and mental wellness center: Soraya's Shelter. The Shelter is named after our beloved former board member, activist, and transgender pioneer: Soraya Santiago (https://wavesahead.org/heroes-and-heroines/ ).
The Shelter is a timely and much need addition to our Puerto Rico.
o Located in Cabo Rojo will include a new facility for the Centro de TODES in Cabo Rojo with its complete offering, case management, and 30 beds for LGBTQIA+ individuals and elders without stable housing. Plus 6 transitional housing studios in the premises.
o We hope to serve, with the shelter and transitional housing units an estimated 96 people every year.
We set out to help to strengthen the community and family environment of underserved LGBTQIA+ people living in Puerto Rico come rain or come shine. Our ongoing on-the-ground services provides peace of mind and dignity while empowering our community.
We want our Golden LGBTQIA+ folks to glow, to feel seen, supported, and empowered to continue contributing to society.
So now, we need your repeat support. It will keep the momentum going and see these new programs come to fruition.
