The Polk County Democratic Party proudly welcomes you to the 2023 Steak Fry on September 30th at Water Works Park! We're excited to host Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as our guest. Gov. Walz, Minnesota’s 41st Governor, has dedicated his career to public service, from military duty to teaching and coaching, and congressional service.
Hailing from rural Nebraska, Tim's values of common good and selfless service were ingrained by his parents. After military service and graduating from Chadron State College in 1989, he taught in China and returned to teach and coach while serving in the Army National Guard. After 24 years in the Army National Guard, Tim retired in 2005. He then began his political journey, winning a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006. Tim championed various bills, including the STOCK Act, which successfully passed with bipartisan support in 2012.
We look forward to hearing Governor Walz's insights on how we can unite in Iowa to drive positive change.
We will also hear from our State Leadership Rep. Jennifer Konfrst, Sen. Pam Jochum, and Rita Hart - IDP Chair. Author and former Ohio Democratic Chair David Pepper will join us. Helen Eddy, Polk County Director of Health will tell us about the new Gun Initiative. Becky Tayler from Iowa Safe Schools and Dr. Emily Boevers of Iowans for Health Liberty are also on tap. Aime Wichtendahl, the first transgender elected woman in Iowa will inspire us all!
Gates will open at 11:00 AM. Meal service will begin at 12:00pm. The program is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
Individual tickets are available for just $40. The event will be catered this year by Orchestrate Hospitality. Steak, chicken, or a vegan option will be included with sides. As always, kids 12 and under eat for free. Hardship tickets may be available by sending a request to polkdems@gmail.com. Please send any accessibility requests to polkdems@gmail.com.
