Meet Mayor Brandon Sakbun: A Groundbreaking Leader

At just 27 years old, Brandon Sakbun made history by defeating a four-term incumbent, Mayor Duke Bennett, in the November 2023 election—garnering around 60% of the vote and becoming the youngest mayor in Terre Haute’s history, as well as the first Democratic mayor since 2008.

His victory marked a major political shift and energized the community with a fresh vision.

Sakbun’s background is a blend of service, academic achievement, and deep local roots:

  • Army Veteran & Leader: A former U.S. Army Captain in the elite 75th Ranger Regiment, with deployments overseas, now serving in the Indiana National Guard.
  • Educated & Prepared: A two-time graduate of Indiana University—holding a bachelor’s in Finance from the Kelley School of Business and a Master of Public Affairs from the O’Neill School, completed just before taking office.
  • Inclusive & Aspirational: The son of Cambodian and Jamaican immigrants, Sakbun stands as Terre Haute’s first mayor of both Black and Asian heritage. His story and leadership inspire a new generation to believe that public service and progress are attainable for all.

Why You Should Attend This isn’t just a fundraiser—it’s a chance to connect fellow democrats and with a mayor redefining public service. Be part of a night that supports emerging leadership while strengthening community roots.

Reserve your tickets now—and help us bring together voices of all generations.
