Senator Heinrich earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri, and worked in energy technology at Phillips Laboratories, now the Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force base. He also served as Executive Director of the environmental nonprofit the Cottonwood Gulch Foundation.
