Registered nurse Lauren Underwood became the youngest African-American woman elected to Congress when she flipped IL-14 blue in 2018.

 

She then went on to help create the Black Maternal Health Caucus, which is focused on addressing maternal health disparities in the healthcare system.

 

Last year, Lauren won her race in IL-14 by just 1.4 points, making it one of the closest House races of 2020.
