Montana presents a stark choice.
Montana's largest utility just took ownership of two 40-year-old coal generators at Colstrip, which emit 11 million tons of CO2 a year. Plus, in a pending $15 billion merger, NorthWestern plans to flood the state with data centers, doubling the amount of its greenhouse gas pollution and endangering our communities' water, air, and rural nature.
Recognize that the EPA estimates that each ton of CO2 causes $200 in climate damage. Expect billions in damage if NorthWestern's plans come true: more forest fires, more floods, more crop losses due to drought, degraded recreation, and more extreme weather.
We have a different vision.
Our lawyer, Monica Tranel, has intervened in the Public Service Commission's "merger docket" to say no to the data centers and profligate climate pollution. It's time to replace fossil fuels with less expensive Montana wind, hydro, and solar backed by proven storage technologies.
