Can you help Irene raise $35k for Oakland Rising Action in five days?

I started working at Bay Rising and Bay Rising Action in July. I can tell you that at this time when apocalypse seems like it's always around the corner, it gives me hope to see that Oakland Rising Action has a model that works and helps us ALL win. My coworkers are fighting for the soul of our city, this state, and this country. They're fighting for inclusion, fairness, transformation, love, and liberation in our political leadership. Will you contribute toward my goal and help me fund Oakland’s biggest voter outreach project?

Oakland Rising Action is a collaborative of nine progressive grassroots groups, started in 2010. They represent Oakland residents who believe in racial, economic, and environmental justice. And they center working-class voters of color living in the flatlands as they make real change through electoral work.

By having conversations one-on-one and face-to-face, and keeping outreach a part of ongoing organizing and long-term campaigns, Oakland Rising Action ups turnout by 10% among the voters they speak with in the flatlands. Since 2010, they've already built a base of over 62,000 progressive voters - that's over a quarter of all Oakland voters connected to politically savvy grassroots organizing! This is what political power coming from all of us can look like.

What Oakland Rising Action accomplishes is HUGE, since many elections are decided by just a few hundred votes. My coworkers also:

• train homegrown leaders in how to run electoral campaigns as candidates and political staffers
• register young people in Oakland high schools to vote
• and hold one of the very few multi-issue spaces where Oakland organizations can come to envision, align, and strategize for the long term.

Oakland Rising Action has helped stop the A's stadium relocation which would have bulldozed community college students and working people from the area, provided immediate protections to tenants among skyrocketing rents (Measure JJ 2016), and much more.
