It’s time for Democrats to stand firm and protect the vital Medicaid and ACA funding that Trump and the Republicans want to gut so they can shower billionaires with even more tax cuts. The White House ordered this government shutdown with no negotiations when the Democrats refused to sign onto the Republicans’ cruel, “Big Ugly” short-term funding bill.

But now three senators -- Catherine Cortez Masto, John Fetterman, and Angus King (an independent who caucuses with Democrats) -- are already caving in, a betrayal of their own constituents. They must stand firm with their Democratic colleagues and fight for their people -- not for Trump, and not for the billionaire class.

If Democrats fail to hold the line, the damage will be staggering: $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts -- the largest in U.S. history -- will strip healthcare from up to 17 million Americans over the next decade. And families’ insurance premiums will soar by up to 75% if ACA premium tax credits expire, with an estimated 2.2 million Americans losing their coverage in the first year alone.

This is not just a budget fight -- it’s a test of our moral courage, literally a matter of life and death. We can’t let Trump and the GOP rip healthcare away from millions and close community clinics, rural hospitals, and nursing homes, just to reward billionaires. It’s time for Democratic Senators to stand strong, reverse the cruel Medicaid and ACA cuts, and save Americans’ lives!
