The ending of Title 42 measures by the government has led to a wrongful perception that as of May 11 th, the US will have an "open border". To combat this misconception, new rules have been put in place to make it more difficult to seek asylum in this country. These changes are taxing an extremely flawed immigration system by simultaneously inviting people who are fleeing dire conditions in their own countries while also thwarting them with stringent policies.
The role of organizations such as Advocates for Immigrant Rights is critical in providing legal representation to individuals and families who arrive in the US amidst this confusing atmosphere. With nothing, people come to this country desperate to start a new life. Unfortunately, many of these individuals are detained in prisons while they wait to find out whether they have a chance to ask for
asylum. We are the only non-profit organization in the Mid-South region that provides free legal services
to people detained in facilities across Louisiana and Mississippi.
Our work is only possible because of the generous contributions of our donors. Whether you are already
