Representative Ryan Spaude is a lawyer, public school graduate, and fifth generation Wisconsinite who is running for reelection in the 89th Assembly District. Raised in Little Suamico by a welder and a dental hygienist, after graduating from law school Ryan worked as a prosecutor in the Brown County District Attorney’s Office where he worked to prosecute drunk drivers and keep his community safe. Ryan was originally inspired to run in 2024 after the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the assembly districts needed to be redrawn to be fair. Ryan looked at the Republicans representing his community, knew his community deserved better, and stepped up to deliver on the issues that matter in his community.
Ryan is running for reelection because he knows there is still work to do to deliver on affordability, invest in education, and deliver on the issues that matter in Wisconsin.
WHY THIS RACE
Wisconsin Assembly District 89 is a key defensive seat that will shape Democrats’ path to a legislative majority under the state’s fairer maps. Ryan Spaude flipped this purple, Green Bay–area district in 2024, proving that voters are ready for pragmatic leadership focused on affordability and strong public schools. With Republicans still controlling the Assembly and Senate, defending AD-89 is essential to protecting Democrat gains and building momentum toward a governing majority in Madison.
WHY WISCONSIN
All eyes are on Wisconsin heading into the 2026 midterms. After years of extreme Republican gerrymandering that locked in GOP control despite statewide Democratic wins, fairer maps went into effect in 2024. These maps create a real path to Democratic majorities in the legislature for the first time in over a decade. With so much at stake for reproductive freedom, public education, voting rights, and economic fairness, every seat is now in play. Winning in Wisconsin will not only decide the balance of power in Madison, but help shape the national landscape in 2026.
