Americans for Financial Reform

Fund the fight to hold insurance companies accountable and lower costs now

Property insurance companies are jacking up prices, rolling back coverage and denying and delaying claims.

Families are paying more in premiums, taking on higher deductibles, and facing increasing restrictions when they try to rely on their coverage, even as insurance companies report record high profits and continue practices that drive those costs higher.

In many states, insurance companies are using pricing factors that charge people more based on factors like credit scores that do not reflect actual risk, unfairly discriminating against households already under financial strain. There’s a well-documented history of households of color having more limited access to homeowner’s insurance or paying more for coverage. These inequities deepen the disproportionate financial burden families of color are forced to bear as premiums rise and insurance becomes less available.

Americans for Financial Reform is working across states to fight back. We are advancing legislation and pushing regulators to ban unfair pricing practices, strengthen oversight of rate increases, and take action to force insurance companies to take responsibility for the climate risks they help create.

This work takes sustained advocacy to counter an industry with deep resources and political influence.
