Americans for Financial Reform

Fund the fight demanding California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara reject State Farm’s proposal to hike up rates and instead use his authority to immediately help Eaton Fire survivors now.

Most people believe that if you pay your insurance premiums year after year, your insurer will be there when a climate disaster strikes.

Instead your insurance company may delay and deny your coverage, forcing you to max out your credit cards while you struggle to keep you and your family safe.

Eaton Fire Survivors Network says that is exactly what State Farm is putting them through.

Since the January 7, 2025 wildfire that destroyed over 9,000 structures and claimed 18 lives, Eaton Fire Survivors Network members say they’ve faced delays, denials, and deflections from the state’s biggest insurer, State Farm. They report financial devastation, serious health impacts, and homes still toxic and unrepaired nearly four months later.

If Commissioner Lara approves State Farm’s rate increase, starting on June 1, 2025, State Farm policyholders in California will see average price increases of 17% for non-tenant homeowners, or roughly an additional $468 added to their annual bill; 15% for renters and condominium owners; and 38% for rental dwellings.

That’s why we are working with Eaton Fire Survivors Network to demand Commissioner Lara take action.
