The DFOC is delighted to be hosting a luncheon for Senator Alex Padilla on July 29, and you are invited.
Senator Padilla represents the more than 1.1 million residents of the 20th Senate District, which includes most of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. First elected to public office in 1999, Alex Padilla became a councilperson for the Los Angeles City Council and two years later was elected Council president, distinguishing him as the first Latino and youngest Councilmember to ever hold this seat.
As City Council President, Alex Padilla provided leadership at critical times – most notably, serving as Acting Mayor of Los Angeles during the September 11th tragedy. He was unanimously re-elected twice, serving as Council President for 4 ½ years. He stepped down as Council President on January 1, 2006 to launch his campaign for the State Senate.
Born to immigrant parents from Mexico, Alex Padilla was raised in the San Fernando Valley, attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then worked for Hughes Aircraft while completing the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs. Prior to running for public office, he worked for Senator Diana Feinstein as well as then-Assemblymember Tony Cardenas.
A dynamic leader, Senator Padilla serves on numerous boards and committees in addition to his work in the Senate. He lives with his wife Angela and their two sons in the San Fernando Valley.
