Allyson Blair "Ally" Davis, age 21, of Banner, KY, was born April 28, 1999 and passed away Monday, July 6, 2020. The only child of Barry and Betty Taylor Davis, Ally is survived by her parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and loving cousins.
Ally is not only a daughter, cousin, and friend - Ally is a legend in the eastern Kentucky performing arts community. She danced at Dance Etc. and with her beloved Prestonsburg Dance Cats, performed at Jenny Wiley Theatre, and was part of the Kentucky Opry Junior Pros throughout her childhood and adolescence. She has numerous teammates and castmates locally and nationwide who are feeling the effects of her loss.
Ally’s impact and prominence in her artistic endeavors did not go unnoticed by those outside those “circles” - her classmates at Prestonsburg High School elected her 2017 Basketball Homecoming Queen, “Most Likely to be a Comedian”, “Most Likely to be Famous” and “Most Likely to be the next American Idol.” She was awarded the 2017 Elizabeth Frazier Memorial Scholarship, and KMEA Distinguished Soloist Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior year of high school. As a musical theatre student at Northern Kentucky University, she continued her advocacy for the arts and helped to create more artistic opportunities for her fellow classmates as a co-chair of their Student Cabaret.
Why BAYR?
We were inspired to honor Ally by supporting Black Appalachian Young & Rising because Ally’s life is proof of how important young people are to our region. In her 21 years, Ally brought us so much joy, love, and light, and her impact on others is far-reaching. In addition to her incredible artistic talent, Ally also shared her gifts through activism in support of Black lives. Just weeks before she passed away, Ally helped organize and participated in a well-attended Black Lives Matter protest in Prestonsburg, KY, using her powerful voice to speak up for justice in her local community. We believe that supporting Black youth in our region is one of the ways we can carry on Ally’s effort. The outpouring of support we have seen in our community following Ally’s passing demonstrates just how strong and mighty the Appalachian network is, and by creating the spaces for Black youth the opportunity to find leadership in this network, we can share the love that Ally gave to us.
