Life Defense Fund Seeking to Bar South Dakota Women from Collecting Signatures for Another Repro Ballot Measure
The Life Defense Fund, an anti-abortion organization, has spent nearly a million dollars on lawyers and millions more on misleading ads to spread lies about us and our amendment to restore Roe v. Wade rights in South Dakota. Their tactics include issuing hundreds of subpoenas in an attempt to intimidate the women circulators who dedicated 18 months to gathering signatures, despite facing harassment from anti-abortion groups and the Catholic Church.
Now, they’re taking it further, asking a South Dakota judge to ban anyone who helped collect signatures for our measure from doing so again for four years. This is a clear attempt to prevent South Dakotans from having another chance to vote on reproductive rights. This lawsuit goes beyond just blocking our amendment—it’s an aggressive campaign of harassment, discrimination, and intimidation against those standing up for abortion rights in our state.
