Support GAIN Power during my breast cancer journey

These are stickers I received from my surgical oncologist.

Last month, during a routine mammogram, doctors found cancer in my left breast. It was caught early, and I’m profoundly grateful — for excellent doctors, good insurance, and a community supporting me every step of the way.

But this diagnosis made one truth painfully clear:

Most of the people who power our democracy don’t have the care, stability, or safety net I’m fortunate to have right now.

Early in my career, I spent years without health insurance. Planned Parenthood was my doctor. Between campaign jobs and consulting contracts, I went long stretches without steady income or benefits — just like so many organizers, strategists, and advocates do today.

That instability shaped me. It’s one of the reasons I built GAIN Power.

Because every election cycle, tens of thousands of talented, committed professionals pour everything they have into defending our freedoms — only to wake up the day after Election Day unemployed, uninsured, and uncertain.

And they’re doing this work at a time when our democracy is in real danger:

  • Democratic norms are being shattered
  • Political violence is rising
  • Black and Brown communities are targeted
  • Social safety nets are dismantled
  • MAGA extremists and billionaire-backed interests are attacking rights, truth, and institutions

The people holding the line are burned out, underpaid, laid off, overextended, and fighting extremism with shrinking resources.

We can change this.

We must change this.
