About Vivian:

Vivian Watts is the Delegate from Virginia's 39th House District, representing parts of Annandale and Springfield. Having been first elected to the House of Delegates in 1981, she was in 1986 appointed Secretary of Transportation and Public Safety in the cabinet of Governor Gerald Baliles before again being elected to the House in 1995, making her the longest-serving woman in the history of the House. Prior to elected office, she was a congressional legislative aide, director of CASA, a non-profit dealing with severe child abuse cases, research director of the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Fairfax League of Women Voters.

Vivian is a tenacious advocate for equity in Virginia's tax code and transportation funding plan, serving as ranking member of the Finance Committee and having been instrumental in rewriting the state's highway funding formulas. She served on the Select Committee on School Safety, and as a member of the Deeds Commission on Mental Health Services, she is spearheading much-needed reform of Virginia's mental healthcare system, the criminal justice response, and K-12's ability to constructively respond to student needs.

About Dan:

Dan Helmer is the Democratic nominee for Virginia’s House of Delegates in the 40th District. Currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Dan served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan after graduating from West Point. While on active duty he earned a Rhodes Scholarship. After leaving active duty service Dan began working as a consultant in the private sector, where he is now a partner in a Virginia-based small business that helps the government, non-profits, and businesses solve some of their most difficult problems. Dan also serves as the vice-chair of VoteVets.

Dan will work tirelessly for commonsense legislation that serves our community and makes it livable and safe: He will support teacher pay raises; he will take on the outside influence of Dominion Energy in Richmond; and he will protect Medicaid Expansion, which delivers healthcare for the first time to hundreds of thousands of Virginians, including tens of thousands of military veterans. Dan will also fight for a fair redistricting process and to ensure the women he served side-by-side with in Iraq and Afghanistan have equal rights guaranteed through ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.
