It’s been said over and over again in Colorado politics, “as goes Jeffco, so goes Colorado.” Add to that, “as goes Colorado, so goes the nation.” So it’s rather curious that the Jefferson County Republican Party is flailing so badly at this point in what should reasonably be a very competitive election.
We read with interest an article in the Lakewood Sentinel this morning entitled “Jeffco GOP limps forward in races – candidates may not be good fit for purple county.” The article details the various missteps and general incompetence that have landed the Jeffco GOP in their current position: Republican candidates with known ties to white supremacist organizations, Republican candidates dropping out under the weight of massive campaign finance violations, and even Republican candidates blatantly accepting illegal corporate contributions.
Help send a message to the Tea Party: Colorado voters deserve qualified, competent candidates to represent them, not white supremacists, corporate money launderers, or people who can’t or won’t follow the law. Contribute to the House Majority Project today to support commonsense leadership in our state legislature.
The only possible explanation for this is really scary. We know that the Republican candidates in Jefferson County aren’t running strong campaigns, but that won’t matter if unlimited special interest money comes pouring into Jeffco to tilt the balance of power in the State House of Representatives.
We already saw that Dudley Brown and his Rocky Mountain Gun Owners will stop at nothing to replace moderate legislators – on both sides of the aisle – with his handpicked band of extremists. And now he's set his sights on Jeffco. In the absence of competent candidates or any semblance of actual campaigns, the Colorado GOP is counting on massive investments by shady political groups to flood Jeffco with untold amounts of negative mail, tv ads, and paid political operatives.
We need to fight back. In 2012, Republican special interest groups spent millions against our candidates, attacking them with relentless mailings distorting the truth and attempting to trick voters into supporting Tea Party wingnuts. Can we count on you to support the House Majority Project, so that all of our Jeffco candidates have the resources to beat back against the negative attacks that historically start after Labor Day?
We can’t do this without you.
