Forced to flee their homes and seeking safety at our door, asylum seekers need robust legal services to have a hope of better days. For most, the asylum system is a daunting maze of forms, rules, and government interrogations.
An asylum seeker represented by a lawyer is 10 times more likely to receive protection than an unrepresented individual. Yet, 80% of detained immigrants do not have representation in immigration court.
The Asylum Defense Project of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid zealously advocates for the rights of detained asylum seekers, but we can’t do it alone. A donation to the Asylum Litigation Fund would help cover the cost of vital legal services for asylum seekers.
A gift of $50 covers the cost of a month-worth of legal phone calls for an asylum seeker. A gift of $100 enables our advocates to travel to detention centers to visit with clients in person. A gift of $1000 can pay for expert witness testimony to support an asylum seeker’s request for protection in the U.S.
