Aura for the People of L.A District 10 in 2020

Goal thermometer

I am Aura Vasquez: a Colombian-born immigrant, community leader, and fearless advocate for racial, social, and environmental justice. Today, with your help, I am launching a campaign to be the first Latina and the first woman to represent Los Angeles District 10.

Twenty years ago, my family and I came to the United States to escape violence and poverty in search of better opportunities. My family’s experience and courage inspired my calling to serve others and be a voice for those who don’t have one. From grassroots organizer to serving on the Wilshire Center Koreatown Neighborhood Council, to Commissioner of the largest public-own utility in the country, I have spent my life advocating for immigrant rights, student funding, and an equitable and just clean energy future.

Not only have I been a community leader in Los Angeles, but I also worked for a Fortune 500 company and founded my own consulting business. None of this would have been possible without the support of my community in District 10, for that reason, I want to give back and continue my work of service.

Your investment in our campaign can make a significant improvement in the lives of District 10 Residents. We need new leadership to take on this challenge. Please donate today!

Together, we can create a District 10 that is innovative, brings economic prosperity, and offers solutions to the problems we face every day. With your support, I pledge to champion real solutions.

Let’s commit to a thriving and livable District 10!

We need to turn our dream of having safer open spaces and community gardens into a reality for our families and friends to enjoy. And, dilapidated sidewalks and bus stops and illegal dumping can’t be left to rot any longer. I’ve seen firsthand how the high cost of housing burdens families, for that reason I have been vocal about the need for developers to bring community benefits to District 10. It is time for a responsible housing development that is affordable and doesn't displace seniors, families and low-income residents in District 10, but instead enables families and long-term residents to stay in the community we love. At the same time, our homeless community should be sheltered and have the services they need to find a way off the streets.

Let’s reach our full potential together!

In a District where diversity is our greatest strength, immigrants and our brothers and sisters of color continue to suffer from police profiling, gang violence, and racial injustice. we need to work together to build more Neighborhood Watch programs, violence prevention initiatives, and make sure the police treat us with respect and dignity. At the same time, we must attract good-paying jobs for residents in the district and investments in small businesses.

Let’s re-energize our District!

Los Angeles is home to some of the nation’s worst air quality. Oil and gas drilling is happening right down the street from our schools, parks, and homes. By moving Los Angeles to 100% renewable energy, we will bring clean energy jobs and investments to the District, keep energy costs affordable, and protect our families' health by reducing pollution. At the same time, let's make sure residents in District 10 who experience poor air quality, suffer from asthma, live near oil wells and urban drilling reap the benefits of clean energy investments first.

Because of my work with the community in District 10, I was able to achieve more than I ever could have imagined. I am an example that the American dream is not reserved for the few -- it’s for all of us.

I am committed to be your voice and to make sure City Hall works for everyone in District 10.

Please donate now and let’s get to work!
