Please Invest in Building Leadership in Alaska

Since 2017, nearly 500 women have completed AWA training. Alumni have gone on to serve as legislators, mayors, assembly members, school board leaders, nonprofit executives, campaign professionals, tribal council members, and board members of Alaska Native Corporations.

During our 2025 training:

  • 85 Women attended the program.
  • Locations:
  • 67 Southcentral
  • 7 Fairbanks
  • 7 Southeast
  • 4 Kenai Peninsula
  • 1 Southwest Alaska
  • 34 were provided with scholarships
  • 9 were provided with travel scholarships and/or housing

While it’s impossible to track all the long-term impacts of AWA since its inception in 2017, we’ve had the following elected positions reported to us by former alumnae: City Council and Assembly members (7), School Board members (4), Electric Board members (1), State House members (8), State Senate members (3), Mayors (3) along with countless candidates, volunteers, activists, and board members.

In the 2025 cohort, 20% of attendees stated they will actively seek public office or are considering a run in the future.

For the first time in state history, women hold a majority in the 40-member Alaska House of Representatives for the 2025 session, with 21 women serving—an accomplishment made possible in part by the leadership pipeline, training, and coordinated support built through AWA.
