Bunch For KC - Moving KC Forward

Neighbors,

When I began my journey to City Council nearly four years ago, I had no clue how drastically different the world would look just midway through my term. My idealized version of serving the community -- in-person town halls, front porch sessions, frequent visits to neighborhoods -- quickly changed. Like so many of my constituents, my focus quickly turned to the health and safety of my family. Serving the 4th District from my dining room table while managing virtual school for my kids was anything but simple; I know many of you had similar experiences.

It was tough, but I remained steadfast in my commitment to serving Kansas City. While COVID raged, we still had a city to run, public services to maintain, and policy goals to achieve. I made promises along the campaign trail that I didn’t give up on. While my priorities had to be flexible -- the health of Kansas Citians was at stake -- I’m proud to say we steered KC through the crisis while at the same time pushing transformative policy.

I’m so proud of what we have achieved together so far, and I’m looking forward to our future accomplishments. It is an honor to serve you.

Just a few of the accomplishments from the last two years:

  • Made KCMO the first major American city to have free public transportation
  • Supported the effort to provide tenants more protections against evictions and dangerous living conditions by passing the Tenant Bill of Rights
  • Co-sponsored legislation to require contractors to pay prevailing wage for any development project receiving tax incentives
  • As vice chair of the Transportation Infrastructure and Operations Committee, I have kept the single terminal KCI project on target for a 2023 opening
  • Created the City’s first ever LGBTQ Commission
  • Collaborated with my colleagues to adopt the nation’s most innovative Green Stormwater Infrastructure plan
  • Co-sponsored legislation to create a stand-alone Housing Department that will more clearly center affordable housing as a top policy priority
  • Helped secure full funding for not one, but two streetcar expansion projects on track to be completed by 2025
