Code of Political Ethics - Ron Bautista, 2019 Candidate Hoboken 3rd Ward City Council

The first time I told my wife I was going to run for office, she asked: “why would you want to go into something that has such a bad reputation?” I say that every one of us has the shared responsibility to participate in changing that reputation and lead by example. In politics, there’s too much at stake and we cannot just leave it to others; “if you are not at the table, you’re most likely on the menu.” As honest, progressive people we need to be at the decision-making table, we must have a voice and a vote that represents everyone. This is my first agreement with the people, a set of values that neighbors, politicians, friends and family will expect me to follow and that I’m happy to be accountable for.

Inclusion: I pledge to fight for people’s rights to be treated fairly and respectfully, to have equal access to opportunities and resources, and for the right of people to earn a livable wage.

Responsibility: At the end of the day we’re all neighbors, which means we’ve all decided to be part of one community. We are all in this together and we share a responsibility with each other. This is why I pledge to have people’s lives always come first in government decisions, starting with our most vulnerable neighbors.

Transparency: I pledge to represent the people, not big money donors. I will refuse any contributions from real estate developers, corporate PACs or corporate lobbyists.
