I am an active volunteer for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a grassroots group advocating for common-sense gun laws.
No, I am not a Mom but I am keenly aware of the gun violence epidemic that we have in our nation. We need to put a stop to this today. Now!
I stood up and became involved after last year's shooting at an LGBT club in Orlando. We lost 49 lives that early morning. We all have a tipping point with matters of the heart. That morning when I awoke, I knew I had to stand up, step off social media and roll up my sleeves.
We're talking about the sorts of things that most Americans agree on:
-Background checks on all gun sales.
-Preventing domestic abusers from getting their hands on guns.
-Closing the sorts of loopholes that allowed a white supremacist to kill 9 people in the sanctity of their Charleston church, and that make it easy for criminals to buy dozens of guns legally in Georgia, then re-sell them illegally in New York.
This year, in honor of our Wear Orange campaign, we'll be raising awareness about how big of a problem gun violence is in the United States, AND raising money to help solve that problem. The best part? A percentage of any money I raise for Moms Demand Action nationally will be kicked back to our New York state chapter. That means that we can pay for more local events and member trainings - the sorts of things that allow us to grow our base of people who are willing to stand up and fight for common-sense solutions to what has become a public health crisis.
So, for the 90-plus people a day (8 of them children) who die, and the 200 more people who are injured each day by gun violence, I ask you to please make a contribution to this essential cause.
Thank you!
