Work that Matters Screening & Blue Horizon Texas Reception

Blue Horizon Texas invites you to a fundraising reception and screening of the documentary film Work that Matters.

Produced by Bet McDaniel and Mary Street Wilson, Work that Matters: LGBTQ+ Advocacy in Texas shares the joys, struggles, and humanity of twelve advocates in the Texas LGBTQ+ community.

Texas is often seen as a testing ground for anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation. For instance, in 2025 there were over 200 anti-LGBTQIA bills filed in the legislative session. Another way to understand the huge quantity this number represents is to put it in perspective; Texas accounted for roughly 25% of all anti-LGBTQIA+ bills in the country.

The Work that Matters documentary shares the stories of activists who have made a difference for the LGBTQIA+ community, not just recently, but in some cases, decades. These stories are part of Texas history, not just LGBTQIA+ history, but history for all of Texas.
