Daniel Biss is a community activist, former Illinois state senator and representative, and current mayor of Evanston. He served eight years in the Illinois General Assembly, where he passed progressive legislation such as banning conversion therapy, creating a retirement security program, strengthening data privacy and advocating for environmental policies.

Daniel is the father of two kids who are trans and nonbinary. As a parent, he knows what it means to fight for your children’s safety, dignity and right to be who they are. That lived experience has shaped his public leadership. He has taken concrete steps and passed legislation to protect access to gender-affirming care. As Mayor of Evanston, ensured the city would not participate in efforts to criminalize families or medical providers.

He’s currently running for Congress to strengthen federal protections for civil rights and ensure that every person can live freely, safely and with dignity.
