On March 24, there will be a special election in Florida state House district 87. This is a seat that was held by a Republican before it was vacated, but which Democrats can definitely win. Donald Trump carried the district 55-44 in 2024, but that margin is roughly equal to the average pro-Democratic swing in special elections that have taken place in 2025-2026. Further, the district was practically tied in both the 2016 and 2020 elections.
What makes this special election is particularly notable, however, is that it includes Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. It is literally taking place in Donald Trump's backyard!
