Right now, Minneapolis and cities across our country are on fire, and our people are hurting — the violence against Black bodies felt in the ongoing mass disobedience, all while we grapple with a pandemic that is disproportionately affecting, infecting, and killing us.
In West Virginia, armed white supremacist groups are increasing in presence. We saw this at the protests in Parkersburg, on the streets of Wheeling, and at the rallies in Charleston.
George Floyd’s violent death was a breaking point — an all too familiar reminder that, for Black people, law enforcement doesn’t protect or save our lives. They often threaten and take them.
We don’t deserve to live like this — and we continue to fight until white supremacy no longer permeates every corner of this country — until we can live full lives — freely.
Every single Black life matters. From the mountains of West Virginia to the streets of Minneapolis and everywhere in between. Our lives have value, and the fight continues until every single human knows: Black Lives Matter.
