On July 8, 2022 at 10 p.m., the state House passed a constitutional amendment that would ban abortion in Pennsylvania in a 107-92 vote. This was in addition to four other constitutional amendments that were rammed through the state legislature overnight instead of working on an already late state budget. Frustrated with the democratically-elected governor's veto pen, the Republican-controlled state legislature is attempting to use constitutional amendments to circumvent the will of the people. This is no way to govern.
For the past decade plus, the Pennsylvania General Assembly has been heavily gerrymandered in favor of Republicans, and despite Democrats repeatedly winning the popular vote statewide, the GOP has dominated the state legislature. Thankfully, we now have the ability to bring this one-party rule to an end.
In 2022, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court intervened and appointed a non-partisan chairperson to the LRC who was key to implementing fair maps. For the first time in over a decade, Democrats have a great shot at flipping the House. After much deliberation, Progress for PA (@Progress4PA) along with @jonahA59, @PAMapper, and @ultravioletET have worked together to form a list of the most competitive races where your donation will mean the most.
Everything from women's reproductive freedom to voting rights is on the table. It is essential that we restore leadership to Pennsylvania and elect leaders that will represent our interests.
