You are invited to Take a Stand against Book Bans with local authors and elected officials, featuring:

The event will be held on Sunday, October 22, at 4-6 PM at 8024 E Boulevard Dr, Alexandria, VA 22308.

Republican candidates for School Board plan to ban books from our school libraries. This is already happening in other counties in Virginia.

• In Spotsylvania County, the Republican school board banned books by Toni Morrison, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
• In Madison County, the Republican school board banned bestsellers like Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire, David Guterson's Snow Falling on Cedars, Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, and Stephen King's It, Bag of Bones, and 11/22/63.
• In Virginia Beach, the Republican school board banned civil rights literature like Christopher Noxon's Good Trouble: Lessons from the Civil Rights Playbook and Ernest Gaines' A Lesson before Dying.

This Celebration is hosted by:

Proceeds will be used to support Mateo Dunne's campaign to represent the Mount Vernon District on the Fairfax County School Board (www.MateoDunne.com)

Mateo Dunne is a longtime resident, community leader, and champion for public education. He moved to Fairfax County 20 years ago so his children could attend the best public schools. For the past decade, he has fought to strengthen our public schools and increase teacher pay. Now he is fighting to defend public education from political attacks.
