The Youth Power Committee's Virtual Fundraiser

WHO WE ARE:

We are the Youth Power Committee (YPC) of Make the Road Connecticut (MRCT) in Bridgeport. We consist of young people who attend and/or have attended Bridgeport Public Schools from 8th to12th grade, ages thirteen to twenty-one. We come from varied life experiences such as not finishing high school, being the first ones in our family to graduate high school and/or attend college. Our committee members love learning, improving our city, and fighting for justice.

We organize to change the negative stereotypes placed on Bridgeport youth and the lack of opportunities we have access to. Since July 2016, we have been meeting on a weekly basis and have identified issues that impact all of us daily. We continue to build people power in our communities because we want to graduate on time and set ourselves up for a brighter future. In April 2019 Bridgeport YPC members made history by assuring that their recommendations for the city’s new Master Plan be approved by the City’s Economic and Community Development Committee (ECDC) and the city’s Planning/Zoning Commission.
