Jack Perenick: Building Accessible Cities!

My name is Jack and I am running for Ward 5 City Councilor here in the great city of Somerville, Massachusetts! I want to make Somerville the poster child for accessible and inclusive cities.

Being disabled, having disabled family members and a disabled partner, I know what inaccessibility looks like. I can see it when I see a person in a wheelchair in the middle of the street because the sidewalks are inaccessible. I can see it on the Somerville City Website when inaccessible fonts are used. I see it when a disabled community member cannot join a community event because there is no accessible parking. I see it when my partner has put off her hip surgery because she can’t find affordable and accessible housing. I see it when young disabled children can join their friends on the playground because of inaccessibility.

Disabled, low mobility, and nondisabled people should have equal access to businesses, services, and spaces here in Somerville. As the community says “Nothing About Us Without Us!” And Somerville really is nothing without its Disabled community members!

Contribute today and help make our community more accessible and vibrant!
