The F*ck Gerry(mandering) Fund

While we obviously care -- a lot -- about who is in the White House in 2020, we also want to make sure that person has the power to actually, you know, govern.

That will be nearly impossible if Republicans get to draw their own gerrymandered Congressional districts. So what's a voter to do? This. This right here.

We’ve teamed up with Data for Progress to launch a fund to help end gerrymandering once and for all.

We wanted to call it F*ck Gerry but our lawyers care about intellectual property (the irony is not lost on us). So now it’s the F*ck Gerry(mandering) Fund.

We're starting with Virginia for two reasons. One, Virginia’s entire legislature is up for reelection in 2019, and Democrats have a real shot at winning a majority and making sure that the state doesn’t have a bunch of Republican-drawn districts.

Our friends at Data for Progress have identified ten races in Virginia this year where your money is most needed. None of these races have a primary, so we can start giving these candidates the resources they need to win.

Two, state legislatures get to draw more than three-quarters of America’s congressional districts. They do that after every census, which happens once every ten years. The last time we went through this process, Republicans controlled 19 states and were able to draw 213 districts that made it much easier for their candidates to win. The next census is in 2020. So! Winning Democratic majorities in target states like Virginia is our best shot at leveling the playing field for the next decade, starting with drawing fairer maps in 2021.

So thank you for chipping in what you can!
