(Congregate Charlottesville is the proud fiscal agent for Black Women Stitch)
Black Women Stitch (BWS) celebrates Black women and girls in sewing, spotlights Black creativity through the award-winning Stitch Please Podcast, while honoring those who stitch to resist oppression, build vibrant communities, and express their freedom.
BWS is sprinting to the finish! From Feb 20 to March 20, we’re pushing to close out our $55K goal—and we need your help to make it happen by Lisa’s birthday!
Lisa Woolfork, founder of Black Women Stitch and UVA professor, is writing Black Women Stitch Liberation as part of her prestigious Newhouse Fellowship at Wellesley College. She is also producing the Stitch Please podcast on the road.
This sprint is about more than just reaching the goal—it’s about keeping everything in motion. If we fill these coffers, Lisa can secure travel to Chicago for the Ambies award ceremony on March 31! This marks the third nomination for Stitch Please by The Podcast Academy, an incredible honor. But before any trip can happen, there are bills to be paid. Let’s make it happen together!
Lisa will be writing her book “Black Women Stitch Liberation,” an archival literary study. A cultural reclamation work, “Stitch Please: How Freedom is Fed with Needle and Thread” is also currently in progress. She’ll also produce the “Stitch Please” podcast on the road.
BWS’s successes have stretched the fibers of our capacity, both affirming our impact and necessitating new elasticity. With your support, BWS will connect Black women and girls to what might otherwise be stolen – their crafting legacy and cultural birthright.
